By Zita Perera Subasinghe

Chrystal’s lament
I sit in my pram sporting a frown
At lonely seafront in lockdown
Gone are the strollers, the hawkers, the fun
Nothing to bark about, pardon the pun!
Chrystal’s my name and clear am I
That I need to say good bye
To this deathly lockdown state
Bring back fun! Wipe clean the slate!
Banish viruses, fever, pandemics
Bring back circus, songs by Eurhythmics
Fill the seafront with happy walkers
Even tolerate few rude gawkers
Let us celebrate in style grand
As we do in this happy land
Send Covid back to his home in hell
‘Hurrah to good health’ let us yell!

    1. Those words are special to me, coming from you, Lucky. We have you to thank for the fellowship we share after over 50 years in medical school. Thank you for taking on this big task of opening our Blog and keeping it going with the help of one or two key figures. Zita

  2. Zita, Nice to see you back with your usual optimism in delightful poetry to chase away the doom and gloom which surrounds us. Do you think Chrystal is waiting for a chance to hear his own voice though he seems content ?
Hope you and your loved ones are well. Take care-

Like all poems one has to read it several times to really appreciate and enter the world of the poet. You have indeed most elegantly described the thoughts that pan through Chrystal's mind in verse hoping the worst is over as curfew tolls the knell of parting day.
    Thank you

  7. Zita ,
Chrystal is as delightful as your poetry and is very welcome in these bleak times.
We miss our cross bred Sandy 2 very much. We are in two different houses, but it’s very comforting to hear his bark when we call the caretaker. As you so rightly say bring back the fun.
Agree with ND that poems have to be read several times over and preferably slowly.Once it has sunk in it will stay for for very long.

  8. Yes, Kumar! Chrystal is delightful! So human and has moods which reflect everything that goes on around. I understand how must miss Sandy. They are friends who never let you down.
I may as well add here, that I read your writings with great zest and pleasure! Your articles have the computer equivalent of 'page turner' effect. You must take to writing seriously if you have not already done so. I mean it! You have a mixture of the character of writers of children's adventures, and serious writers of the past hundred years. I mean it! Zita
