   Planning for the 50th Anniversary

   Hello Everyone!

2. As we start planning for our 50th Anniversary of

   entering medical school, I have taken the first steps

    in developing a simple blog for easier communication. 

   It is primarily for the 1962 entrants to the Colombo

   Medical Faculty of the University of Ceylon (as it was then known).

   The blog will carry important news items, pictures, 

   e-mail messages, announcements etc. Please feel

Subject: Reunion Deadlines

I am aware that there are two deadlines that you have to think about. One was our own deadline for confirmations (December 5th). The other is the deadline to pay the advance to the hotel.

As far as the December 5th deadline (our own) is concerned, we have decided to give a grace period until December 31st for you all (especially those who still remain undecided) to think about it further and let us know your decision by the end of this month. 

As you would have noticed by now, we already have the numbers to make the 50th Anniversary Reunion a success. But let's try and get together the biggest group possible. Mind you, we have lost four colleagues who attended the last Reunion at Hikkaduwa (Kamali, Priya, Lucien and Farouk) and 29 in all.

With regard to the deadline set by Jetwing Hotels for payment of the hotel advance, they have not told us about a deadline. Swyrie managed to get some rooms blocked out for us (not sure of the exact number). If you need this information urgently, I suggest that you contact Reservations at Jetwing and ask them (quote our reference number). Click on the following link to get their contact information. My advice to those who plan to attend is to pay this as soon as possible because the hotel needs some guarantee to hold the room for you (and we have a limited number of rooms).

MESSAGE FROM SWYRIE BALENDRA

Hi  !  All Batchmates

I am aware that all of you are conscious that 2017 is a landmark year for us.  

50 years since we qualified !  We, your Batchmates in Sri Lanka have already  

set the ball rolling for a celebration to mark this milestone anniversary. 

We are planing a bash up next year to meet, recall, reminisce and relive the

 unforgettable  five years we spent together in Medical School. We are indeed

 fortunate and proud that after half a century we are still in touch with one

another.

After much consideration of weather in Sri Lanka, availability of hotels etc.,

we have fixed on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of March 2017,  for this reunion. 

Lucky has kindly agreed to  handle correspondence regarding this reunion.

Those of us who live in Sri Lanka feel that for this anniversary celebration,

the numbers  attending will be the highest ever for a number of reasons. 

Firstly it is the 50th anniversary.   Further, our responsibilities are now less

and most of us are retired with time to do what we like to do !

Important Message from Lucky

Dear Friends,

This important message is being sent out to all members of our batch whose e-mail addresses are on record with me. It is about the 50th anniversary celebrations since our graduation in 1967. We hope to hold this event in Sri Lanka in 2017.

You will recall that we had a highly successful Reunion at Cinnamon Tranz in 2012 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our entry to the Colombo Medical Faculty in June 1962. Let us try and do even better in 2017 with more participation. 

To do that, we need to prepare the ground work before deciding on dates and venues. First of all, I have to update my e-mail list which still remains the most convenient way of contacting you all.

Let me also remind you that I am doing all this voluntarily on your behalf. I agreed to function again as the Secretary of the Organising Committee at Swyrie's request, only on condition that she will again lead the effort as she has been doing for many years.

As I have said repeatedly, there are many in the batch who have not provided e-mail addresses. Whenever I send out a general e-mail, I have also noticed that many of them bounce back either because the addresses have been changed or that some do not check their mail regularly. To begin with, let us address this issue. Other formalities like co-opting a few more members to the Organising Committee will be done at the first planning meeting to be held shortly.
