Although Priya was not in our batch, most of us knew her as a member of our junior batch. I had a call from Pram this morning to convey the sad news that Priya had passed away in England about two weeks ago. Pram and Priya had been very close friends over a long period. Priya was with me in the Medical Students Union Committee in 1965 - 1966. Please see photograph below.
This blog is about new entrants to the Colombo Medical Faculty of the University of Ceylon (as it was then known) in June 1962. I had the good fortune to meet Priya last year. She was the same vivacious, cheerful and fun loving person we all knew in the Medical Faculty. Her mood was infectious and I never suspected that she had any form of illness and news of her death came as quite a shock. I gathered that she didn't want to trouble her friends with her problems and apart from her most intimate circle, she kept things to herself. A truly wonderful person.
ReplyDeleteI remember Priya well and feel deeply saddened she is no more. She was charming and personified simple elegance and glamour as she lit up the drab corridors and lecture theatres at the Faculty. I never met her since leaving Medical College. My lasting memory will be her dazzling smile . May she have Eternal Peace.
