MediVision 2020 – Medical Exhibition

The Faculty of Medicine Colombo celebrates its 150th anniversary in the year 2020.  As the pioneer seat of learning the art and science of medicine in Sri Lanka, our faculty has numerous facets to celebrate, spanning three centuries. Many events have been organized to celebrate our 150th year including a medical exhibition “MediVision 2020” for the general public, prioritizing school children with the hope of inspiring the future generations.  The exhibition will be held within the Faculty premises from 27th March to 4th April 2020 under the theme “The Glory of a Medical School”.

A Raffle Draw with an exciting array of prizes has been organized to commemorate our Faculty’s 150th birthday and raise funds for the anniversary celebrations. The draw will be held on 26th July 2019 at the faculty premises. Raffle tickets are priced at Rs 100 each and each raffle ticket book contains 10 tickets (Rs. 1000/- per book).

We invite our alumni to join us in celebrating the 150th anniversary of our faculty and would be extremely grateful if you could help us in raising funds for this event by extending your support towards the sale of raffle tickets. Ticket books are available in the faculty premises. If you are able to help by the sale raffle tickets or any other means please contact:

  1. Thank you Lucky for posting this. I will be sure to spread the word among friends and family in Sri Lanka, and may even be able to help by selling a few raffle tickets. I will certainly encourage the young people in my family to attend. I remember an exhibition when we were in Medical College, which was a big hit! Various gory pathology specimens were displayed for viewing by the general public. The items displayed by the Forensic Pathology Department were of particular interest to some members of my family!

  2. I posted this as both members and non members need to be kept informed. Some of you may have received this directly from CoMSAA.

I too remember the highly successful medical exhibition held during our time as medical students.

I am sad to say that the attendance from our batch at the annual get-together is fast dwindling.

I am no longer in the Council, but wish to thank Srianee on behalf of CoMSAA.

  3. Thank you,Lucky about the information of the on-coming Medical Exhibition.
I remember an incident that took place during the Exhibition, held during our time.
I was involved in the Public Health Dept, under the guidence of Dr.Earl Fonseka.Just before the opening of the entrance to the visitors,a gentleman starting coming up the stairs to the Public Health section.I confronted this man and asked him how he managed to enter, before the gates were opened. He ignored me and continued to go up the stairs.Immediately behind him was our 300 batch,Philip Veerasinghasm, who told me to be careful with the man and mentioned that he was the Prof.of Bacteriology. That was the first time,I had seen Prof,Chapman. When it came to Bacteriology exam,he seemed to have forgotten all about it.After all the Exibition was a great success.I wonder whether you were involved in any way in that, year. My job was to explain how the water purification was handled.I remember visiting water purification plants at Labugama and sewage handling plant at Colombo North, during our Public Health classes.

  4. I participated in the medical exhibition in 1970 which was our centenary year. It is a privilege for me to actively participate in the next exhibition in 2020 which is the 150th anniversary. Carlo Fonseka performed fire walking at the centenary exhibition. In 2020 the 'Greenery Project'would be completed and the inner quadrangle would be transformed.
