All's well! No need to yell!
A welcome contribution from Zita Perera Subasinghe
(written I'm National Poetry Day (09 10 2015)
I'm just walking along the street
In Marseille,
that famous town
Children
laugh, people greet
Happy faces,
not a single frown
Suddenly, a
crowd, in the street
Red flags of
strike, people chant!
Police
throng, while drums beat
'Go away'!
'Stop'! 'No, I shan't'!
Some in
cafés, drink in hand
Others punch
the air and loudly shout
Some enjoy
Sun, Sea and Sand
Others have
grave needs no doubt
Some, to
work, are more than willing
While some
need to scream and chant
There's no
need for guns and killing
No one is in,
that much want
Attacks by
nature, we can't fight
When she
sends Storm and Deluge
But personal
greed, we can fight
And to the
homeless, give refuge
A bed of
roses, life is not
Dire
hardship's there for all
Be thankful
for what you've got
Stand up! Hold head high! Walk tall!
Thank you, dear Zita for the lovely poignant poems. They have your valued signature of rhyming verses. Being a Francophile, I take it these are your memories of Marseille, that beautiful Mediterranean city with their café culture and delightful wines. What strikes me are those home truths about rain and storms and of greed and suffering. They are all a part of the trials of life. As fellow humans we must help and provide refuge. The final verse is a candid summary of life for us all.
ReplyDeleteMay God Bless you and be with you on your onward journey.
Dear Zita, So happy to see you with another fine, meaningful poem to get us through these challenging times. Thank you - my love and best wishes
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy reading Zita's poems and this was no exception. She is amazing in that she is so keen to see the Blog alive and running if not kicking! She has apologised to me for not actively commenting but Ireassure her that we undertand.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Zita and thanks so much for your continuing support.

Zita, it is great to see your thoughtful, timely, poem here. Yes, we should choose our battles and fight injustice in ways that are possible. We can all make a difference, however small.
ReplyDeleteWe miss you on the blog, but understand that you need your rest. Love and blessings to you and your family.
Dearest Zita, Thank you for your gem of a poem . A timely reminder to us all that we need to count our blessings, as well as have the courage to take a stand for what we believe in, instead of slavishly follow the crowd, the popular view point
ReplyDeleteYour "gems" are all the more valued for their rarity and the way they treat us to an unexpected delight ! So take care my dearest friend and continue to inspire us all with your courage wisdom, patience and the way you unflinchingly take up every challenge life throws at you. May our Precious Lord Jesus continue to be your comfort and strength.
Love you . Suri
