Just now, I heard the sad news that Dr. Anandaraja (Rohini's husband) has passed away. Being thousands of miles away, there is nothing that we could do except to send our condolences to Rohini.

Dear Lucky,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information. He had been ailing for sometime.
I will pass on Kanthi’s and my condolences privately.
Dear Lucky,
ReplyDeleteI have passed my deepest sympathies to Rohini via email,as soon as I saw the message.I have never met Dr Anandarajah, but had heard about good things he did during his service to SriLankan community,A coleague who happened to be a Bloemite told me that he had done his Internship under his guidance.Dr Anandarajah had send the feed back about the patients to the referring GPs ,following discharge from hospital. He weanted to practice the British way that he learned while in UK.That must have been unique and perhaps other Consultant collegues would have disagreed with his practice.
Correct the misspetting the word weanted to wanted.
ReplyDeleteShould read as wanted instead of weanted.
DeleteDr Anandaraja was a greatly respected Cardiologist in Auckland for many years. As Kumar has said he has been unwell for sometime. He was lovingly cared for at home by the family. He was cremated according to his wish without fuss and ceremony, with the loving family in attendance. It is indeed a time of grief and pain for the family. I have passed on my condolences To Rohini, Natasha and Romesh.
ReplyDeleteAs Rohini has said his was a long life well lived.
May he find eternal peace.
Thank you for conveying this sad news. He was a good man, a good husband and a good father. I shall send my condolences to Rohini.
ReplyDeleteI will send my condolemces to Rohini. I met Dr Anandaraja for the first and only time few years ago, at Nawaloka Hospital when Rohini was admitted after developing an allergic reaction to food. Chanaka Wijesekera who is married to Rohini's sister was also with them on that occasion.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lucky, for sharing this sad news. Rohini indicated that Ana was needing more and more help, and I got the feeling that he was declining. I know that their daughter was able to visit a few months ago, but I'm not sure if she was able to go back again. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting Ana. I will get in touch with Rohini directly, as well.
ReplyDeleteOnly seeing this now, and reading this sad news with a heavy heart, I want to add my condolences and deep sadness at this news of the loss of the loving husband of one of our key members of Batch'62 and regular contributor to the Blog. I know that nothing I say can change anything, but the knowledge that we all stand behind you, supporting you at this sad time, hopefully makes things a little bit more bearable Rohini and the other members of your family. Just remember that all the love of our unique batch holds you up at this sad time and we hope that it makes a tiny difference even, in facing the coming days and weeks.
ReplyDeleteDear Lucky
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this sad news. I have net Ana on a couple of occasions when I met Rohini in Melbourne. He was a kind man. I will contact Rohini privately.
Kind regards
Virginia

DeleteHow lovely to hear from you after such a long time. I dont for a moment believe you can remember me from the 'wrong end' of the alphabet, but never mind that. It must be a great relief you've just come out of a long and strict lockdown. Enjoy the summer and stay safe.
Virginia, it is good to hear from you, even though it is a sad occasion. I know we exchanged a few emails several years ago, and if your email address is still the same I will contact you. I have already written to Rohini, and will call her in about a week. I hope all is well with you and your family. All the best, Srianee (Bunter)
DeleteLovely to see your comment Virginia. I am pleased that you do visit our Blog and dare I hope for a contribution from you which we will be more than willing to publish! Take care

ReplyDeleteThank you Bunter and Sumathi. Nihal I must say I hardly remember you from College days but we were 250 odd in numbers! I did phone Rohini but got her message bank so left a message and sent her a text and she responded very sweetly. Yes Bunter my e mail address is the same. Write when you can.It will be nice to hear from you. We are just coming out of a long lock down in Melbourne
ReplyDeleteHi, Virginia, you appear as unknown. You were well known during your school as well as Faculty days for your swimming skills with flying colours. Not only that, you were the only one with European descent in our batch that was remarkable.I am sure you will stay safe from Covid19.

ReplyDeleteDear colleagues, Romesh, Natasha and I deeply appreciate and gratefully acknowledge the expressions of your sympathy. They are a great comfort to us at this difficult time-
ReplyDeleteThank you all.
Ana was our guiding light- We will miss him enormously.
Dear Rohini, Thank you for taking the time to write. We will be thinking of all of you. It appears that Ana left this life in the manner that he wished, and was able to see your daughter in spite of all the travel restrictions. I'm glad that you were all able to spend time together before the end. We hope to see you back on the blog when you are ready to rejoin us. Take care of yourself.
