Sad news of Philomena P Thiraviam passing away

Just heard from Maheswary Nadarajah (Singharayer) that PP Thiraviam passed away on the 6th of September.
She is the 51st on the list of departed colleagues

I recall her as a quiet girl, always in Sari.
As far as I know, she never left Sri Lanka.
More details will be posted when I can get them. Please send me or post a comment if anyone has any information about her.

  1. So sad to hear. Philomena was a quiet gentle girl always impeccably dressed in a sari as Speedy mentioned. It's sad that we loose touch with people we interacted almost on a daily basis in the last .... But that is life .
    May she Rest in Peace

I remember her, but didn’t know her well. She was quiet, not boisterous like my other friends! May she Rest in Peace.

I knew Philemina when I worked in Badulla from 67 to 70. She stayed in the same house Anna Ponnambalam and myself stayed. She was a very gentle quiet girl always minded her business . I lost touch with her after I moved to Colombo

    Vanitha Palaniappan ( Shanmugavadivel).
I too met Philomena in her intern days in Badulla at the hospital doctors quarters .
As Shantini says she always kept to herself, very gentle
and quiet and I didn’t hear from her after my internship in Badulla.
As it happens with everyone else we all depart from one place to another depending on our training , I lost contact with her after that.
Very sad to hear about the news .
    May she R. I.P.

  4. Mahen, Thank you for this notification though it saddens me.
I had the privilege of being acquainted with Philomena during my med school years - I am sorry I lost touch with her on leaving SL.
She was reserved, soft spoken, and mostly kept to herself, but her innate beauty was evident.
In the words of Thomas Gray- “Full many a flower is born to blush unseen and waste its sweetness on the desert air”
May her beautiful soul find eternal peace.

  8. I briefly commented on the WhatsApp group, but I wish to add something more here on the blog. I'm pretty sure I exchanged more than a few cursory greetings with Philomina while we were students, but I didn't get to know her much at all. It was impossible to become acquainted all 160 (?) batch mates anyway. Mahen, the photo you have posted is beautiful. She was shy, dignified, and kept to herself. Was she in the women's hostel? I heard that she was doing private practice in Jaffna. I hope she led a contented and fulfilling life.
At times like this one is filled with regrets, mostly thinking "I should have tried harder to keep in touch" etc. So all of us who are still around, let's try a little harder to connect with each other. Take care of yourselves my friends, and reach out to each other.

  9. Thanks Srianee for being a stalwart of the Blog. Even at a time like this when we lost a colleague, the response on the Blog was largely a deafening silence- broken a bit by my transferring a little noise from the WhatsApp group. I have to face the fact that the Blog has lost its appeal and is now on its last legs. It is clearly not the preferred medium of commuication within our Batch. We did very well and I am proud of it but it is now probably the time to say good bye to it. This is the Natural Law and nothing unusual.

Thanls to all who contributed and most of all to Lucky who started it.
