GEMS FROM THE PAST- 2007 Reunion Souvenir
Suri referred to the 40th Anniversary Reunion of the Graduating Class of 1967 souvenir, a treasure trove. I am fortunate enough to have a copy and I am publishing some pages from it. It is 65 pages long, and I had to be selective, and just give you a flavour. We owe a lot to "Con" Bala for masterminding the production of the souvenir.
The Reunion was held at the Cinnamon Lodge, Habarana.
I have shown the cover, message from the Organising committee ( Priya, Pram, Suri, Sriani, Punsiri, Ganesh, HN and Swyrie- sadly five of them have since departed), and a few selected pages.
The rogues gallery is a special feature, thanks to Sanath Lama. I have shown one page. Each page has four photos.

ReplyDeleteThank you for that wonderful piece of batch history. I never attended the reunion but have heard a lot about it. The photos are a stark reminder of our age and mine in particular. A mere mention of some of the names like Lucky Abey and HN brings back a plethora of memories of happier times. HN was my Co-Worker doing internship in Kurunegala and recall the happy times together. Those 6 months simply flashed by. Razaque and I studied Anatomy together with Bernard in a class room at St Anthony's school Wattala. We gossiped more than study. Lalantha Amerasinghe started counting ants on the ground after a glass of beer at Peradeniya university campus.
They were happy times. I do wish I attended those reunions.
Nihal, I am glad you found this useful. It is good to reflect on the amount of effort and time the Organising committees spend on staging these events. I am ever so grateful to them. Sadly, I doubt whether we will have anymore major reunions. Like everything in this arena of Life, change is inevitable. All the more reason to reflect and appreciate.

ReplyDeleteI do agree with you. We must reflect on our journey thus far. I recall many years ago calling Priya Gunaratne while I was in Colombo. I was admonished for for not attending our reunions and she didn't mince her words. We worked internship together and have remained friends. I do praise the organisers of these events for their loyalty, dedication and commitment.
Although I love to reminisce i do not wish to dwell on it too long as it tends to dampen my mood. This is unpleasant in the winter in particular with grey skies and stuck at home.
I look forward to Spring and the cricket at Lords.

ReplyDeleteThank you for highlighting the batch reunion 2007. It brought back pleasant memories as I attended it. I too have the souvenir.
I feel sorry that 5 of the organisers have left us.
I found the souvenir of our reunion in UK in 1992 too, you had been an organiser. I attended that too.
It is lovely meeting our batchmates at these reunions.
Atleast let us communicate with each other via our batch Blog.
Thanks for keeping it alive, not forgetting Lucky for initiating it.

Thanks, Chira. I too attended most of them but not all. Always enjoyed them and had a great time. The organisation was perfect and there were no problems at all. I wish we all could meet again but the days of big reunions are over.
