SLMA Doctors' Concert 2018

The annual Doctors' Concert of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (for doctors and their families) held annually in conjunction with the SLMA International Congress was held last evening at the Grand Ballroom of Galadari Hotel. A few of us from our batch attended. They were Sanath Lama, Pram, JC Sura and myself. Pram is one of the Joint Social Secs who organised the show. See pictures below.

127th Anniversar​y Internatio​nal Medical Congress of the SLMA

As you probably know, the 127th Anniversar​y Internatio​nal Medical Congress of the Sri Lanka Medical Associatio​n (SLMA) is now going on. I have received these pictures from the Joint Social Activities Secretary Prof. Vajira Dissanayake.  Along with the other Social Activities Secretary Dr. Preethi Wijegoonewardene, they had done an excellent job in organising this entertaining social event which forms an important part of the medical congress. The SLMA President this year is Dr. Palitha Abeykoon (known to most of you) who was in our parallel batch in Peradeniya.

Re-elected President of the SLMA of N. America, West Coast

Lareef Idroos was re-elected President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association of North America, West Coast in March 2012. He was first elected to the post in February 2010.

Long before Muralitharan became a household name, Lareef was Sri Lanka’s ace spin bowler who played for St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia (as captain), SSC and University of Ceylon and also represented the country with distinction before the country gained test status. Lareef who is a Nephrologist is now domiciled in California.

 

 

Two members of our batch received this Outstanding Health Professional Award 2012. They are:
Dr. Chirasri Mallawarachchi Jayaweera Bandara (Consultant Ophthalmologist)
Dr. Suriyakanthi Karunaratne Amarasekera (Consultant Anaesthesiologist)

Plus SLMA honours women doctors For the first time in its 125-year history, the Sri Lanka Medical Association honoured 15 women doctors, who have made an enormous contribution not only for the benefit of Sri Lankans but also the world, at a simple ceremony held at the SLMA auditorium on International Women’s Day last Thursday. Special awardee: Prof. Priyani Soysa receiving her award from Chief Guest Prof. Lalitha Mendis as Dr. Vajira Dissanayake looks on The ‘Outstanding Health Professional Awards 2012’ were presented to Dr. Selvi Perera, Prof. Dulitha Fernando, Dr. Malani De Silva, Prof. Leela De A. Karunarathne, Dr. Maya Atapattu, Dr. Nalini Withana, Dr. C. D. Jayaweera Bandara, Dr. Stella De Silva, Prof. Priyani Soysa, Prof. Anoja Fernando, Prof. Gita Fernando, Dr. Suriyakanthi Amarasekara, Prof. Lalitha Mendis. Dr. Premini Amerasinghe and Dr. U.
