New Ministers

As you all know, the new Cabinet in Sri Lanka was sworn in yesterday. This follows the Presidential Election that was held on 8th January, 2015.

Our batch colleague Wasantha (Owitigala) Jayasuriya's husband Karu Jayasuriya is the new Minister of Public Administration, Democratic Governance and Buddha Sasana. Wasantha's son-in-law Naveen Dissanayake is the new Minister of Tourism. The latter is a son of the late Minister Gamini Dissanayake.

Our congratulations go out to Wasantha and her family.

  1. I met Karu at Pram's place last year and he was convinced that the combined opposition would win. Let us hope they keep all their promises as the one constant in politics all over the World appears to be broken promises by Politicians.
I cannot recall any other Batch Colleague with such high connections.
I recall meeting them at the Batch Reunion in Hikkaduwa too. Last question, I thought she was Vasantha with a V - looks like I was mistaken and she has gone further and entered W territory! Good luck to you W(V)asntha.

  2. Our best wishes to Karu and Wasantha. It is heartening to know democracy has survived the coup, insurgencies, the war and the power of politicians. To get a quote from a person who didn't believe in democracy:
It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.
